Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin

The Midwest's Family Playground

There's a place in Wisconsin that beckons families from the Midwest and all over the country: Wisconsin Dells. The Dells call out to harried parents and restless children, "We have what you are looking for. Come play!" And that's what you will do all day and all night in Wisconsin Dells: Play, as a family.

The Dells are known for scenery and entertainment. Located along the Wisconsin River, it got its start as a tourist attraction in the early 1800s. Dells river captain Leroy Gates was one of the first people to recognize the potential of the area's sensational scenery. Gates began boating with visitors up and down the Wisconsin River to show off the area's beauty and charm.

By the mid-1800s, a new railroad made Wisconsin Dells easily accessible from neighboring states, bringing on tourism. Soon, fleets of sightseeing boats were chugging up and down the river, and Wisconsin Dells was on its way to becoming a family fun capital.

Today, the Dells draw thousands of families each year with the invitation to play on the river; hike through the terrain; enjoy the plethora of games and rides; swim in the largest outdoor water parks; and ski or snowmobile through a winter wonderland. Whatever the season, there's always something to do.

Spring and Summer

The Dells are alive and kicking during the warmer months, with adults and kids alike getting soaked in the many outdoor water parks, pools and warm weather activities. Noah's Ark, the nation's largest water park, is a perfect example. With daring slides like "The Point of No Return" and "Black Thunder" (complete with special effects), family-friendly attractions like "Bumper Boats" and "Paradise Lagoon" and little kid events such as "Water Animal Show" and the "Go Gator" mini roller coaster, there is truly something for everyone. With several restaurants, shopping and more, you'll want to stay all day. Noah's Ark is located at 1410 Wisconsin Dells Parkway in Wisconsin Dells. Contact them at 608-254-6351, or www.noahsarkwaterpark.com.
