Christi's Journal -- Introduction

We are a family of four. Phillip, Christi, Alexis who is 4, and Caleb who is 23 months. On October 27 we will start an adventure that is sure to be a wonderful time. We will be going to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

We are leaving on my birthday, but we will simply be staying closer to the airport that first night. On the 28th our flight leaves early in the morning. That is Caleb's second birthday, and just eight days after Alexis' 5th. We do hope to have some kind of birthday celebration while we are there.

This will be the first flight for both of the kids. We chose to fly because it seemed smart to take the shorter of the two choices. I am worried about how the kids will behave on the flight, but figure it is just three hours compared to the probable three days it would take us by car.

Also we will be going with my sister and her husband and two children (age at the time 5 1/2 and 15 months). For a week we will all share a condo just minutes away from the Magic Kingdom. That in itself should be interesting. After the first week, we alone will be staying on Disney property for another four days and three nights.

Our trip will be over Halloween. So, we will get to go to "Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party." The night of the 31st we will go to the park for this annual party. Everyone is encouraged to dress up -- parents too! Rides are open, and many "cast members" are there handing out candy, there is a parade with many of the children themselves in it. This is something we are really looking forward to.

We plan on visiting all of the Disney parks along with Universal Studios and Island of Adventures. We are also hoping one day will hold a trip to the ocean for us. Phillip has never been (or the kids) to any ocean, so we would really like to be able to visit.

This trip began as a family affair to celebrate my mom's five year mark of being cancer free. Since we began planning in December of 1998 Mom's cancer spread and she passed away. While she was in the hospital she made my sister and myself promise several times that we would still in fact still go. She was adamant that the kids get to see Disney World. So, we will go and we will try to enjoy ourselves. I am sure the kids will make sure we have a great time.

I hope you enjoy our journey!
